How We Started
Gratitude Coffee Company started with a simple morning ritual: a cup of coffee, a walk, and thoughts of things to be grateful for.
Over a decade ago, I found myself dealing with the physical effects of the stresses of life. After trying different approaches without much success, I eventually accepted that it might just be something I’d always have to live with. But over time, I began to discover small practices that started to make a difference—endurance exercise, a healthier diet, and unexpectedly, gratitude.
In searching for ways to counter stress, I found studies that showed positive effects of both giving and receiving gratitude. I didn’t really believe it at first, but for a cost of nothing I figured I’d give it a try. In the mornings, I’d brew a cup of coffee, step outside, and take a walk through my neighborhood while listening to a short gratitude practice I had found. It was nothing more than ten to fifteen minutes of intentionally focusing on what I was thankful for. It was simple, but over time, it actually seemed to be making a difference.
What I didn’t expect was how much effect it would have.
The stress and anxiety that once felt constant began to ease. The constant feeling of fight-or-flight no longer filled my days. I became more connected—not just to people, but to the world around me, including the pets I once never imagined I’d grow so attached to. Family members even noticed (especially my newfound attachment to our pets).
Somewhere along the way, coffee became more than just part of the ritual—it became a passion. Like many of my hobbies, I dove in headfirst, learning everything I could and eventually roasting my own beans at home. When the opportunity came to purchase a commercial roaster, it felt like more than just another hobby—it felt like a chance.
A chance to build something meaningful.
Gratitude Coffee Company exists to share that morning ritual with others. It’s about more than just great coffee (though that matters a lot). It’s about creating a moment in your day to slow down, reflect, and reset—even if just for a few minutes.
We believe coffee can be part of something bigger:
A pause in a busy day
A reminder to be present
A tool for improving mental well-being
We also recognize that everyone’s relationship with coffee is different. After experiencing caffeine sensitivity for a while, I saw firsthand how limited good decaf options can be. That’s why our next steps will include developing high-quality decaf coffees that taste just as enjoyable as their caffeinated counterparts—so more people can take part in the ritual, even if they have to skip the caffeine.
If Gratitude Coffee Company can help you create even a small moment of calm, reflection, or appreciation in your day, then it’s doing exactly what it was meant to do.
